I’m going to share one of my favorite video and tutorials on how to add extra shelves to kitchen cabinets. Whoever decided to only put two shelves in kitchen cabinets needs to rethink that decision! It’s such a easy way to organize kitchen cabinets!
Seriously. Who couldn’t use more cabinet shelves for better organization? Today, I’ll share two different types of material you can use when adding additional shelves to cabinets.
I’m also going to share a few creative ways to use extra shelves in a kitchen to make the most of the space you have. This was one of the top posts a while back, and just one of the many Creative DIY Shelving Ideas for Organizing and Styling your Home I’ve shared! It’s made such a huge difference in how I organize my kitchen cabinets I had to share it again.


Our kitchen is small, there is no room for wasted space. I’ve worked like crazy finding ways to stay organized. My post on How to Organize a Small Kitchen and Get More Space is a big help.
But I was ready to reclaim more unused space in our kitchen that I could put to good use. Our kitchen cabinets only came with two shelves for each cabinet. What a huge waste of space!


If you’re reading this, chances are you could use more cabinet shelves too. The best thing about what I’m going to share with you is that you can easily add more shelves to kitchen cabinets, a bathroom vanity or garage cabinets. You can add more shelves anywhere you have predrilled holes along the sides of a cabinet.
How to Add Extra Shelves to Kitchen Cabinets

These are the materials I used to make extra shelves for my kitchen cabinets out of plywood.
These are the materials I used to make extra shelves for my kitchen cabinets out of prefinished shelving.
- Prefinished shelving in the (depth) width needed for your cabinets. You’ll cut each shelf to the length you’ll need
- Shelf pins.

Adding new shelves to a cabinet is easy.
- Measure your cabinet width or an existing shelf.
- Cut additional shelves for each cabinet.
- Arrange them to make the most of your cupboard space.
Tips on How to Organize Kitchen Cabinet Shelves to Make More Space


#1. Group the same size items together.
#2. Place the items you need the most where you can easily reach them.
#3. Only stack like items.


#4. Purge what you don’t use at least once a year.
#5. If possible, lay tall items on their side facing outward.
